Memories of Summer Post #3 - Eve's Birthday

Eve has the best birthday in the world. June 25th. I defy you to come up with a better birthday. The weather is warm. School hasn't let out yet so everyone is around, and it is EXACTLY half way to Christmas. Yes, my little Eve gets presents every six months. Beat that.

This year we did things a little differently for her birthday. Usually we have a family party and friend party. This year, since the Hudson side was getting together in early July, we decided to wait and do one big party with friends and tons of cousins. She was totally on board for it since she wanted Dotty to be at her party. So for her birthday I took her and her sisters to Calaway park and we ran in to some friends and had a great time. Then we went home and she helped me make her birthday cake and then we had pizza and cake for dinner. She was have a great day, and loved being the " birthday girl". I was a little surprised when at bed time she ask, " Is my party going to start now?". She didn't like the answer I gave to that question and there were a few tears.

But the party day finally came a few weeks later. It was a bubble party so we had a lot of bubble stuff around. It was a little hectic with 3 friends, 2 sisters, and 8 cousins! Thank goodness my sister Erin was there to help. With that many kids you need more than one adult and we both agree that the adult can't just be any adult. For example, the adult should not be Andrew Rasmussen. My darling husband does not cope well with the chaos and had enough sense to hide in the basement until I asked him to help bbq the hot dogs. You also do not want to have a mom of some kid in your child's class stay around, one that you have never met before...they might not want to see all the goes on. No, you need a good friend who loves parties and Erin was a spectacular help.

We did bubble art - which didn't work out. We made some really huge bubbles that were really cool. We had some fun with water balloon. My favourite was the treasure hunt for the bubble wands that Erin and Jack put together. Of course, I only have pictures of the cake - we decided to do cupcakes this year, with bubble gum on the top. The bubble gum may not have been the best choice. A few chewed pieces ended up where they shouldn't have.
I like that Eve is right next to Jack. Next to Audrey and Dotty - the other four year old, he is by far her favourite Hudson cousin.

After the friends from the birthday left, the cousins spent hours filling water balloons. The filling of the water balloons was more fun that the water fight that followed I think. It was a long fun day and after it all Eve really felt like she'd had a party that was worth waiting for. Thanks everyone for coming.

I wish I was in town for the birthday! Mine is May 31st, but I was due June 16th... and I must say my birthday is a pretty good one too. Unfortunately, it has snowed the last few birthdays I had in Calgary which is never fun! I also had a diploma exam on my birthday once. Also, not fun.

Jack sure looked like he had fun! And hopefully wasn't bored at all!
