The first item on Alice's agenda this Spring break was getting her own room. So Monday, the first official day of the break, we had the great bed switch. Jackie moved up to the top bunk in her room, Eve moved in with Jackie on the bottom bunk and Alice got her own room, with her old bed that has been in the basement.
She has big plans for the decorating of her room. Her colors - for better or for worse - are black and white with bright purple accents. We ordered a duvet cover from Target and my mom is bringing it up tomorrow - so we will see how it looks. I'm sure Alice will love it - not sure about the rest of us.
Decorating tastes aside, my favourite part of her room is this Ikea desk I found on Kijiji for $40. Alice wasn't too in to the desk, until she realized she could do crafts on it. Once she figured that out, she immediately began stocking it with craft supplies and the girls have been busy there everyday. It is the new cool hangout. Alice had me hang a magnet board beside the desk so she could sketch out her plan for her craft and pin it up to refer to while she is making her craft. She is a planner.
It took Eve a day to come to terms with the loss of her room, but she has adjusted. She now feels pretty grown up to be bunking with Jackie, though her early morning escapades to check on Jackie by climbing the latter to the top bunk have resulted in a couple of big falls, but luckily no lasting injury. Hopefully we can teach her not to climb it ( or she will learn how to climb it without falling).
One thing I realized last night as I was letting the girls stay up to finish Fantastic Mr. Fox (which I liked more than they did I think). I can no longer put Eve to bed earlier than the rest of the girls. Confession: there have been days when I would do all the bed time rituals, and tuck the kids into bed. Then I would close the door to Eve's room, and Jackie, Alice and I would tip toe down the hall and stay up for another hour or so. Our bed time conspiracies are over.

How fun!! Alice's room is going to be so fun and bright with the colours she chose. And the IKEA desk is great, I love desks! I would put one in every room if I could, just looking at them makes me want to learn! Emberly told me yesterday that she wants to only ever move one more time, to a house with her own room and chickens in the backyard. The room I think we can do, we'll see about the chickens!
