Jackie is only three but already has found the love of her life. Their relationship started three years ago, when Jackie was just turning one and my friend Jenny, Logan's mother, started babysitting my girls. Their relationship involved a lot of toy stealing, crying and sadly - some hitting back then - but has since evolved into quite a sweet friendship.
When they were just barely two, we were at a park and I was pushing the two of them on the tire swing. They were laughing and giggling together and having so much fun. Jenny said, wouldn't it be great if they got married? I said - "That would be great, as long as Logan is OK with having a bossy wife!" Later on, Jackie and Logan were playing on the twirly slide - carrying up rocks to throw down the slide. Jackie was at the top of the slide and Logan was on an rock expedition, when Logan saw something and started to walk away from the slide. Jackie stuck her head over the top of the slide and yelled, "LOGAN, WE ARE PLAYING ON THE SLIDE!". He turned and said, "Oh yeah!" and came back running. That happened a couple of times so I began to think that this relationship could work.
Logan has had to deal with being the only boy. Last year, he was a Knight at Jackie's princess party. A knight was a fitting costume, because he does like saving Jackie. Last summer, (when they were just about three) Jackie was very scared of ants. When she saw one, she would cry out and Logan would come running! "It's OK Jackie" he would yell, as he heroically stomped on the offending insect. Sadly, later that summer, Jackie's dad in an effort to stop her from being so scared, taught her that ants were her friends. Logan was quite surprised when in an effort to save from a bug he made her cry by "killing her friends!".
Yesterday I took Logan, Jackie and Eve to the zoo, while my zoo hating six year old was at school. Logan and Jackie were so cute and had so much fun together. They each picked out a dinosaur statue for a pet, and then decided their pets would get married. We picked out dinosaur pets for Evie, me, and Logan's sisters. Then Logan said, "What about your honey?" meaning we needed to pick out a dinosaur pet for "my Honey"
Andrew.
Andrew.
Logan and Jackie took turns riding in the stroller. When they were both too tired to walk, Jackie rode on the foot rest between the front and back seats, with her legs hanging over the side so they could all ride together. Logan wanted to go see "the bats" (a.k.a. the nocturnal animals) so we did. Jackie was scared in the dark and when we left she declared that she "did not like that place at all". Logan said it was his favourite part of the Zoo, but on the way home said,"Next time, we won't go to the bats, because Jackie doesn't like it". I think many of the women who are drug along to kung fu movies wish they were dating a guy like Logan.
Anyway, all this is just so you will understand a funny thing that Jackie said today. She has been talking a lot about her birthday. Whenever she sees a tree with yellow leaves she says, "That tree really wants my birthday to come!". She hasn't decided what kind of party she will have - a princess party, a fairy party or a ballerina party are the top picks. She tries to fit Logan into each girly party. He can be a prince at the princess party, a bat a the fairy party ( she watched Fern Gully recently), or "a dancing boy that lifts up the girls" at the ballet party. Today, she must have been planning a princess party, because she came running into the kitchen and said, " I have a great idea for my party. Each girl that comes has to bring her own boyfriend. Then, we can ALL play sleeping beauty, and Logan won't have to kiss everybody!" That is the first time she has referred to Logan as her "boyfriend". I guess she wants a BYOB ( bring your own boy) sleeping beauty/kissing party. Maybe we won't invite the bishop's daughter this year.

So did she not want Logan to kiss everybody because she was thinking of him? or was she thinking of how jealous it would make her?
