This year is is different. We have already picked two big boxes and four big bags, and haven't even got 1/3 of them off the tree. (This picture was taken after picking all of those apples) Andrew wanted to leave some on the tree to see if they will get sweeter if they go through the first frost. I haven't checked, but since it was -5 last night, I imagine that it is now over never - so apples anyone?
The girls LOVE picking apples. However - eating them isn't their favourite. So far I have made apple crisp, apple strudel, and apple muffins. They haven't really liked any of it - though Andrew and I especially liked the strudel. We'll tackle the apple cyder, apple sauce and probably dried apples after thanksgiving. Maybe I'll even have time for apple chutney. Jackie is especially interested in cyder - since she likes warm drinks, and always calls it "apple fire"
Alice likes to climb high in the tree where the big red apples are. She says "I LOVE THIS APPLE TREE" almost constantly while picking. On Monday she stayed out till it was almost dark and her hands were aching from the cold ( You can tell we live in Canada -where it is almost dark at 7:30 and freezing cold the beginning of October)
Anyway - if anyone wants some organic, local sour apples - they are free to whoever wants to come and pick them.

Nice tree!! My kids love to pick apples. Although I did just get 40 pounds of apples from the church co-op. :0)
Jill has been helping in the yard with a lady that lives near us. She's a bit of a gardening expert of sorts and she says that the apples do get sweeter after the first frost. Hope that holds true for yours!!
I think the apple juice sounds like the best idea. Juice it, add a bunch of sugar....should be perfect! :0)
Yum! Aren't apple trees kind of magical? I love how you can watch them grow through the summer and then pick them and make all kinds of yummy stuff! Ours are done now, and the piles of fallen apples that we raked up are now under the snow getting all squishy and rotten. Should be real fun to clean up when this all melts! :)
Those apples trees are awesome. Looks like so much fun to climb those trees and pick the apples. What a fun thing to do!!
