Confession - I LOVE BIRTHDAYS! I love making people feel special. I love making and eating cake. I love giving presents and most of all - I LOVE A GOOD PARTY. In our family, we start talking about what we are going to be for Halloween in July and we start planning our birthday party theme at least three months in advance. Alice's theme for her seventh year bash - ROCK STAR!
But of course - in our house a birthday isn't just one special day, it can be a week long celebration. Alice's celebration started on Tuesday, when she officially turned seven. She brought chocolate kisses to school to share with her class and came home to a very large gift that she was dieing to open (she had to wait a whole 20 minutes until her Dad came home). Here she is begging to open it! She had a this point already guessed it was a keyboard and had that guessed confirmed by Jackie - 4 year olds aren't that good at keeping secrets.

The finished product is below. The cake was super easy and ended up being one of my favourite cakes - almost as good as the Nemo cake when Jackie turned 2. What was more impressive is that I made this on Thursday morning. Yes, that's right, more than 24 hours before the party started. A record for last minute Jill.

We invited 7 kids to the party and they all made it. The kids from school had never been to our house before and Andrew was worried they might get lost. He suggested we hang some balloons on the front fence so they would know they were in the right place. We didn't get around to doing that - but no worries, the sounds of the super loud drum set played by Evie told them they were in the right place! Eve had to spend some quality time with Andrew during the party when she wouldn't stop stealing the drum sticks. She may be destined to be a drummer - a dream she will have to pursue when she leaves home, because I don't think I could handle the noise.
At the party the kids did a treasure hunt for the headbands, microphones and scarfs. They decorated their own guitars and learned important rock star terminology - like jamming and gig. They also named their band ( the disco band). I learned that 6 and 7 year olds can name a band in 30 seconds, when it takes a high school student 4 to 6 months ( yes Sam I am referring to you and your band mnemonsine which i never could spell....)
Below is some of the photo shoot for the album cover.

It was a great party. As Jackie said - the best ever! Thank you Jenny for helping out ( another mom is so much more help than a Dad)and for bringing the music and the camp rock movie. Thanks Allison for the disco balls, drum set and tambourine. And thanks to you Alice for being so rockin awesome! We love you.
Alice has been playing with her present all morning! And as she said to Jackie - I still have one birthday party left. Grandma and Grandpa and selection of aunts and uncles are coming over tomorrow for dinner, and I believe more cake and even some presents...
