Dad's influence on the girls

At Eve's preschool this morning:
Me: I like that kids hat. It is like an old fashioned airplane pilot.
Eve: That is funny, boys don't care about fashion!

I explained the difference between fashion and old fashioned, but had to agree with her, that her dad, the only boy in our house, does not care about fashion.

Yesterday we went and did our grocery shopping after picking the kids up from school. They were very helpful at the grocery store. The older lady behind us commented on how good they were and how much they were helping me. I said they were always good like that. She asked if they could have a treat, and I said they didn't need one because they had already had a cookie. Eve had heard the "T" word though and started giving the lady the "cute eyes" so they lady asked me again and I relented. I thought she must have candy canes in purse or something, but what she did was buy each if the kids one of those big tubes of smarties with a figurine on the top. The kids were SOOO excited and grateful. Alice said as we were walking out of the store:

" We better tell Dad as soon as he gets home that you didn't buy us these things, otherwise he'll be mad and think we are wasting $".

And that is what Alice did. Andrew WAS very glad that we hadn't paid for those overpriced candies.

I lost my i-pod shuffle again and spent an hour on Monday trying to find it. I was looking everywhere. The girls were watching a movie from the library (the Ballet Shoes with Emma Watson - it is a cute show). When the movie finished Jackie went to find me. I was in the office looking for the i-pod. She said,

"Mom, I just upstairs looking for you and I found all the lights on in every room and no one up there at ALL. Why did you leave all the lights on! I turned them all off."

I told Andrew how Jackie had taken over his role as the electricity police. He is glad that the house is in such capable hands and that someone is responsibly turning off the lights for me when he is not here.

Oh my goodness Andrew and my Dad could be BEST friends. My dad always taught us to turn off the lights, turn off the sink while doing dishes, close the fridge until you know what you're getting out of it, take off your shoes on the mat, don't put your hands on the mirrors and walls, don't buy foolish things, blah blah.

Sounds VERY similar to Andrew! Although, your girls seemed to have learned to obey these things and make good habits from a much younger age than we did. Now that I live on my own, I have become the electricity and fridge police in Grecole's Home. Got it from my Dad!

Love your girls!! Miss you all.
