I have a cold, so I am feeling a little tired. There was a window this afternoon to take a nap, so like any self- respecting mother, I tried my best for some shut eye. Jackie, however, did not take the "watch a show by herself" bait, instead opted to nap with me (What? Who are you and what have you done with my daughter!). After reading some books we snuggled down for a "nap". She was so still. Was she actually going to nap? I thought she was falling a asleep. Just as I was nodding off, I hear, "Pause the game".
She was only pretending. She is so serious about pretend. So serious, that she totally got me. Not serious enough to actually go through with it. Darn.
"Pause the game" has to be my favourite childhood phrase. It is completely against the rules to say anything not game related without those magic words first. Kind of like it was against the rules to say anything English in my grade 6 French class without saying "comment ditons". But with those words first, you can say anything.

i love the new look! I love pretend! Dotty is just starting to get into pretend. Last night she was watching her favorite episode of teletubbies where lala dances in secret while the others are off, when they come back she pretends to sleep. She danced and slept along with Lala and loved every minute of it....so fun!
Hee hee - pause the game!! That is great.
I don't know if this is a gender thing, or what, but for me and my pals it was always "time out." The weaselly kids would always say "time out," or the quicker "TIMES" right as they were being defeated, thus giving them a chance to regroup or change the narrative of the game. This was called being "cheap." And no one wanted to be "cheap."
Okay, time in.
